Rachel trained at Ecole Jacques Lecoq in Paris then worked across Britain, France and Spain, as a freelance actor, director, consultant and workshop leader in the devised and physical theatre worlds before co-founding Menagerie New Writing Theatre in Cambridge. Working with Menagerie as actress, director, dramaturg and core company member she helped bring into being their Hotbed Festival of new writing.

A move to Plymouth saw the founding of Part Exchange Co [PECo]  in 2008 with the launch of the Hidden City Festival which brought together new writing, the multi-disciplinary, sites, communities and the city. The festival worked across the city bringing the arts, culture, heritage and education sectors together in celebrating the city and its unsung voices and places.

In the years since founding PECo she has continued to successfully develop and deliver a whole host of projects, processes and events including the 2 year arts council funded Engine House, a process driven project that researched and developed seeds ideas that brought writers and artists together in innovative collaborations around socially engaged agendas, delivered the Earthed project, a large scale site specific event unearthing the stories and inspirations to be found in the Ashton Meadows green site, working with school children, local communities and artists.

In recent years she has been running a number of projects that use a co-devising model of participatory engagement that seeks to bring project collaborators together in non hierarchical shared processes of creation. Most recently with the Dark City project, collaborating with a core team of visually impaired co-devisers to create an interactive multi-sensory immersive journey into the city.

Rachel continues to work as freelance director, directing award winning ‘blominasuchwitz’ for Menagerie theatre.
